She loses herself every day
in the machinery called Life :
Work chipping
away certitude,
Obligations eroding identity.

She struggles, but
unlike the salmon,
who knows it is a fish
and swims to a place
because it has to spawn;

She, dead before her appointed hour,
continues shuffling through twilight passages.
